Prince Caspian Movie Review When I wrote a mostly negative review of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe back in December 2005, I received emails questioning my sanity, my heritage, and suggesting various orifices to insert a wide variety of items in. Despite being hounded by very persistent and passionate Narnia fans, I still stand by that review (come on now, a C’s not really that bad, is it?). So not being a fan of the first film, I was very, very reluctant to watch the second Narnia movie, Prince Caspian, a 140 minute action/drama/comedy with the tiniest amount of romance thrown in. The director knows he set the bar high with the first film, but he’s positive fans of Night at the Museum won’t be let down by the sequel, Night at the Museum 2: Escape from the Smithsonian. “I’ve got to tell you, the script is better, the cast is bigger, the action’s bigger, so we’re feeling pretty good,” said Levy while on the What Happens in Vegas red carpet. “I’m here telling you, I don’t think anyone’s going to be disappointed.” Read On...(Photo © 20th Century Fox) New Movie Posters New on DVD: Indiana Jones: The Adventure Collection The first three Indiana Jones movies are featured in the Indiana Jones: The Adventure Collection DVD boxed set, hitting stores just in time for Indy fans to refresh their memories before taking in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I admit to not being able to put down book two, New Moon, or book three, Eclipse, and I’m counting down the days until book number four - Breaking Dawn – hits stands on August 2, 2008. Meyer’s fantasy world of vampires who don’t kill humans and gangly teenage werewolves is captivating, entertaining, and thoroughly addicting. With the movie version of her first book just finishing up filming, I've put together a little preview piece to get you up to speed on what to expect: What You Need to Know About TwilightMore on Twilight (Poster © Summit Entertainment) Brand New Movie Photos And Celeb Photos from the Red Carpet... The first Narnia movie, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, earned $65 million over its opening weekend back in 2005, however that movie hit theaters in December when the competition from big-budget action movies wasn't nearly as stiff. It's likely Prince Caspian will knock Iron Man out of first place (something Speed Racer failed to do), but with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull looming on the horizon, Prince Caspian may not hold the throne for more than a week. While Prince Caspian's target audience isn't exactly the same as Indiana Jones, there's enough of a crossover that the fourth film of the Indy franchise should impact Prince Caspian's box office numbers. Time will tell if Disney made the right move by releasing Prince Caspian during the crowded summer season... I mean, I’m an action guy now so that’s going to be my new career path. I’m going to get really bulked up and just do action movies.” Read On...(Photo © Warner Bros Pictures) Box Office Report - May 9-11 Use any racing metaphor you want to describe Speed Racer's box office performance - sputtered, stalled, ran out of gas, whatever - the truth is, the $100 million movie simply failed to inspire moviegoers to fork over their cash. While Speed Racer's $18.5 million first weekend was way below estimates, What Happens in Vegas' $20 million opening weekend exceeded expectations. Meanwhile Iron Man continues to draw in audiences, raking in $177 million since May 2nd. Cameron Diaz, Ashton Kutcher's co-star in What Happens in Vegas, missed most of the press opportunities leading up to the film's release (and skipped the premiere's press line) because of a devastating event in her personal life. Diaz' father recently passed away and the actress, who's normally very accessible with the media, understandably chose to avoid doing interviews while dealing with her father's death. What Happens in Vegas Coverage (Photo © Richard Chavez) New and Expanded Photo Galleries Friday May 9, 2008 | permalink | comments (0) Speed Racer Movie Review Speed Racer has the dubious distinction of being the only movie I’ve ever sat through while wishing I’d been born colorblind. An hour into Speed Racer, the phrase “What were they thinking?” was pounding around in my head, begging me to open my mouth and scream it out loud. Two hours into Speed Racer and try as I might I couldn’t come up with one act I’d committed that was so despicable I deserved to be plunged into this cinematic, eyeball melting hell as punishment. Trixie’s wardrobe in the movie makes a wild fashion statement and Ricci says she had a great time getting all dressed up in her Speed Racer costumes. “I enjoyed it immensely - a lot of pink, pink and red which is kind of awesome. I liked her clips and her makeup. It was really fun. It's fun to play someone who's a little bit cartoonish. They dressed me up like a doll, but then they let me go and fight people and race cars and fly a helicopter so it was fun.” Read On...(Photo © Warner Bros Pictures) New on DVD: PS I Love You Hilary Swank doesn't usually take on comedies and it's highly unusual for the two-time Oscar winner to play the lead in a romantic comedy, but that's what she does in P.S. I Love You directed by Richard LaGravenese. Joined by some attractive eye candy - Gerard Butler, Harry Connick Jr, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan - Swank tries her hand at lighter fare and, for the most part, she succeeds. The concealing outfit is necessary as Fox tackles the role of the mysterious Racer X in the Wachowski Brothers’ take on the classic anime series. Fans of the 1960s series know the history of the leather-clad Racer X, and Fox had only to turn to two of the biggest Speed Racer fans around in order to get into character. All of Hirsch’s driving was done on a set in front of a green screen and so the actor was able to get by without any professional race car driver's training. “I actually didn't even get into a car the whole time I was in Europe. No, I got into a car…I just was never behind the wheel,” joked Hirsch who confessed he’s normally a very safe – and slow – driver. Hirsch admits behind the wheel he’s the polar opposite of his Speed Racer character. “I'm a very, very conservative driver.” Read On...(Photo © Warner Bros Pictures) Just Added - New Movie Posters Tuesday May 6, 2008 | permalink | comments (0) Display Latest Headlines | powered by WordPress |
